Segway Beta; yet a pain to stop

By Segway Beta Tester from Ogdensburg, NY on 7/26/2008

4out of 5

Pros: Easy to Use, Supports Heavy Weights, Fast efficient transport

Cons: Can't stop wheels

Best Uses: Riding around town

Describe Yourself: Getting Started

This Segwa- err, hand truck, is a fast efficient way for me to cart around my warehouse.

Only issue I have is it doesn't balance itself and that I can't stop once I set it in motion. Ever consider adding brakes so I can stop it? It's a painful experience to faceplant on one of these.

iCloset: Rethought

Well, I bricked the i-opener AGAIN. It was a stupid move.

iCloset may be re-done another way with the FireWorld Network Improvement Project.
This project involves a new Compaq Presario 5340 I got from my uncle. 96 MB of RAM, 400 MHz K6-2, etc. It will become the new closet server. It will get a 120 GB harddrive, maxed out memory at 384 MB, and a new 100MBit networking card to replace the 10Base-T card in it now. It will be running Server 2003, handling all network functions.
The i-opener will become a thin-client to connect and work on the server. But of course, me editing the startup file has caused it to launch a root shell, and keep a welcome app running so I can't use the Terminal.
The max I can put in the Compaq harddrive wise is 128 GB. The machine is from the "windows 98" erro- err, era. The router may also get a boost if I can get the cash.

I have been looking for a laptop on the cheap for basic stuff, and the Acer Aspire at Wally-world seems suitable for $400. Maybe a 1 GB stick of RAM may help give it's Vista Home Basic a boost...

... and I also have a mini-fridge in my room now, that I would like to stock Mountain Dew in for those late-night IRC sessions.

A new laptop... please?

iCloset - the networked closet

Ahhh... it's 9:40 PM.

My i-opener got to a root prompt [VERY GOOD THING]. Soon thereafter, I used a command and bricked it.

I plan on keeping it in the closet, hooked into my Lexmark X125 multifunction printer sitting up in there, as a network center. I'd also attach a 250GB external drive for file storage.

It'd be awkward with all the cabling, though.

I'll write more soon - the Wii's OSK sucks.

Voicemail and you...

GrandCentral is my main phone service. I have it set up for my Gizmo Project account.
You can reach me at (315)-836-4336 (Watertown, NY number. Long distance charges may apply.)

iReally wish iCould get an iPhone. The hackers have done it. They can spoof activation and deactivation. They don't want people putting out links to the site (it helps with the Digg/Reddit/Slashdot effects) but I can pass on the IRC channel: #iphone on irc.osx86.hu.
I'll quote the news out to y'all:

We have released a proof of concept activation program for the iPhone that works with a valid token (deactivation works with any token). There is significant information in the release note, please click the link above.

Our updates:

  • iPhone Dir: The directory structure of the OS for the iPhone has been successfully extracted and can be found at SystemFileAndDirectoryList
  • DMG: Has been successfullly unencrypted and unpacked.
  • Unlocking: Groups are attempting to access the serial side of the radio to issue an unlocking code we think will work.
  • Services: We are attempting to get SSH running on the iPhone.
  • Restore process: This is tightly involved with the other efforts and is being worked on.
  • Custom applications: Still unknown. It was thought that the iPhone might only run signed code, but it seems that this is not the case.

Thanks for all your support!

Now I just wish I had the $600 to buy one...

I WAS supposed to get an iBook G3 clamshell from somebody... but they didn't call me to let me know. Mrs. Coskran - if you somehow miraculously found my blog, call me!

The Wii's acting up now with my new network settings - WPA2 security, MAC filtering, the works - Opera tells me "Network not available. Contact your system administrator..." I AM the sysadmin! Then it proceeds to tell me "You have a working network connection." Big N has no idea what's wrong with the WPA2. Maybe it's because my new SSID is "ThisIsSPARTA"?

I got Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas at the store recently, and I'm loving the whole game. Except for my controllers. We're using the Nyko PS2 wireless multiplayer controllers. They use 2.4 GHz and are next to my router, and a wireless mouse of unknown frequency. After a few minutes, the controllers start to disconnect (the lights flash on controller/receiver) and CJ starts moving in circles. Even if I switch channels.

Where in the world am I posting?

Guess where I'm posting today...
In the Microsoft Management Console! It's a weird thing to do... but... in Microsoft MMC, you can create your own snap-ins. Disk Defragmenter is a snap in. I ran Disk Defrag in Author mode (so I can add more functionality to Defrag,) and found a way to put a web link in. I pointed it to Google. It's really funky, if I click to go back to Defrag, and then back to Google, it brings me back to the page specified in the shortcut I added.

Unfortunatly, the Print Screen button isn't working for some odd reason...

Wii?

I'm posting from Wii Opera. Later on, I'll fix the formatting - I can only use the HTML editor to post. It's alright, but there's some things to desire... like a keyboard. Wiimote typing SUCKS.

I was able to defeat the great filter of OFA by using Remote Desktop Connection to my Windows 2000 Server computer (read: the family PC). I forwarded port 3389 through my DD-WRT powered router. I also got a No-IP.org address for it so I don't have to remember the IP address.

Also, if there's a ".us" at the end of a sentence, it's the Wii's sh*tty predictive text d*cking around.
